This tour is targeted to an audience who is environment friendly and interested in the rural side of tourism, who enjoys sport, gastronomic and poly-sensory activities. At the core of this tour is the reuniting with nature. The three primary lakes of north Lazio: Lago di Bolsena (Bolsena Lake), Lago di Vico and Lago di Bracciano; and their nareby villages rich in history and tradition: Civita di Bagnoregio, Viterbo and Caprarola.
The first stop of our tour will be at the village and lake of Bolsena. By steamboat, we will circumnavigate Bisentina island and, on request, Marta island – which, due to it being private property, it is non-visitable. We will take a break to rest and eat a take-away lunch.
The afternoon will be spent exploring the Bagnoregio village, accessible only by a pedestrian bridge built in 1965. Choosing to visit this village will give you the chance to immerse yourselves in a dream-like atmosphere.
By late afternoon we will arrive in Viterbo and check-in at a B&B – a owned heritage house in the heart of the city. We will wonder the streets of the centre-city and see some of the city’s landmarks, such as Piazza del Plebiscito, Piazza San Lorenzo and the Cathedral of the same name, and lastly Piazza Fontana Grande.
The evening will be spent at the Antica Sosta agritourism, in close proximity to the B&B. Here we will be served traditional dishes made locally, like cold-cuts, cheeses, whines, breads and pastas.
The following day we will venture in the Riserva Naturale del Lago di Vico e dei Monti Cimini (Vico Lake and Cimini Mount Natural Reserve). Inside the reserve, which surrounds the volcanic lake, are paths of various lengths and difficulty. The medium length path, about 1km long, known as the Pozzo del Diavolo (Devil’s Pitt) takes about an hour.
The afternoon will be spent in Caprarolae will. Visit the Palazzo Farnese (Farnese Palace), Palazzo Gherardi (Gherardi Palace) and the Fontana Delle Boccacce (Smirk face Fountain). We will then back to Viterbo. After a day of walking, you will have the opportunity of enjoying a romantic evening at the Terme dei Papi (the Popes’ Baths). Here you will be able top enjoy several couple’s treatments, for example the Candlelit relaxing massage, an Ayurvedic message and an re-equilibrating massage.
The day of departure, after leaving the B&B, on our road to Rome, we have scheduled a stop at the Lago di Bracciano (Bracciano Lake). There’s many tracks around the lake, with the one we recommend being il Sentiero S.Celso (S.Celso Path). This is a 2.5km walk, at 50m above sea level, which will take about 1 hour 30. For those passionate about biking, there is La Ciclovia dei Laghi (the cycle paths around the lakes). This is of medium difficulty, about 8 kilometres long and a 1 hour 30 minute long bike ride.
The tour will end here, where you are free to choose whether head back to the starting point or carry on with another tour.
This tour is for people who want to discover the history of these locations keeping in touch with the wild nature of the North of Lazio. Some days to taste the flavours of tradition, and to relax thanks to treatments proposed at the Popes’ Baths.
